Buyer or Associate Buyer


Ted Pella, Inc. is seeking an experienced Buyer or Associate Buyer, depending on qualifications, to join our Purchasing team. This person will be involved in purchasing and maintaining inventory for retail distribution, and will work with vendors as assigned to establish best pricing and most efficient shipments.

Job Duties:

Buyer:

  • Utilize the purchasing worksheet to determine inventory needs based on min/max, back orders, and lead times.
  • Create purchase orders based on supplier and parts demand from purchasing work sheet. Submit purchase orders to suppliers through various methods (via SYSPRO, fax, online).
  • Confirm receipt of each purchase order, lead time, and cost by phoning, faxing, or emailing the vendor.
  • Match all confirmations to purchase orders and enter revised information in computer.
  • Contact vendors when confirmations and/or due dates are not met to obtain current status.
  • Contact all vendors past due for new delivery dates and notify Customer Service of delays and make appropriate changes to purchase order notes.
  • Evaluate back order report for items needing to be expedited.
  • Follow-up on all purchases and expedite when necessary.
  • Respond timely to Customer Service inquiries.
  • Continually seek new vendors for evaluation and obtain fresh quotes regularly.
  • Fulfill inventory corrections, adjustments, price changes, and related data entry to inventory.
  • Supply price change notification to appropriate management.
  • Review all price changes and notify appropriate staff.
  • Strive to find cost cutting tactics on each order placed.
  • Perform additional duties and/or tasks as assigned by Purchasing Supervisor.

Associate Buyer:

  • Match all confirmations to purchase orders and enter revised information in computer.
  • Confirm receipt of each purchase order, lead time, and cost by phoning, faxing, or emailing the vendor.
  • Contact vendors daily when confirmations and/or due dates are not met to obtain current status.
  • Update tracking information related to purchase orders.
  • Contact all vendors past due for new delivery dates and notify Customer Service of delays and make appropriate changes in computer.
  • Respond timely to Customer Service inquiries regarding backordered products.
  • Work with accounting department to resolve any Goods Received Notes (GRN) differences to insure prompt payment to vendors.
  • Supply price change notification to appropriate management as soon as possible.
  • Follow-up on all purchases and expedite when necessary.
  • Assist with the return to vendor (RTV) paper work, i.e. Packing notes, Tracking updates to replacement POs.
  • Complete additional duties and/or tasks as assigned by the Purchasing Supervisor and/or Operations Manager.
  • Assist in placing non-inventory orders requested by purchasing staff.
  • Filing of paperwork.

Job Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; AA degree is preferred; or the equivalent of college coursework and related experience.
  • 3 years of purchasing experience is required for Buyer, 1 year of related office and administrative experience is required for Associate Buyer.
  • Prior purchasing experience is required, such as entering and submitting PO information to outside vendors via email, fax and phone. Manufacturing and/or production environment experience is preferred.
  • Experience using a MRP or ERP system is preferred. SYSPRO experience is ideal.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organization skills. Ability to work well with people. Ability to interface successfully with customers, vendors, co-workers and management. Must be able to collaborate and interact successfully with customers, managers and co-workers.
  • Excellent computer knowledge, including use of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet. Must type at least 45 wpm and 10-key by touch.
  • A high level of attention to detail and accuracy is required. Good problem solving skills and good judgment.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment, learn new things quickly, handle multiple tasks, and prioritize responsibly.
  • Must have good math, reading, writing and spelling skills. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in the English language, verbally and in writing.
  • Must be self-motivated to work independently, as well as work well on a team. Must be results-oriented with a demonstrated track record of success.
  • Must have strong attendance record and work ethic, and maintain a positive attitude at all times
  • While performing this job the employee is continuously required to talk, see and hear. Continuous sitting, use of hands and arms, to grasp and manipulate office tools, equipment and paperwork. Regular standing, walking, bending, twisting, reaching, and lifting/carrying 10 pounds. Occasional climbing stairs, use of step stools, lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling up to 30 pounds.

Hours:

Full-time, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., and hours and overtime may vary based on business needs.

Pay & Benefits:

$16.52 - $23.74 per hour plus an excellent benefit package. Pay rate will be commensurate with experience. Benefits include a generous medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plan, a 401(k) plan with Company match, paid vacation, sick leave, and 10 paid holidays.
