Associate Mechanical Engineer / Mechanical Engineer
Ted Pella, Inc. is seeking an Associate Mechanical Engineer or Mechanical Engineer, depending on qualifications,
for mechanical design and development of new and existing products, including instruments, as well as small parts
and supplies that serve the global microscopy community. This position reports to the Engineering Manager.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Design, construct, and test mechanical prototypes and test beds.
- Create new products from idea, to proof of concept, through to the final manufactured product.
- Design, develop, and test all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery.
- Apply knowledge of engineering principles to design products such as engines, instruments, controls, robots, machines, etc.
- May be involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and/or repair of mechanical products. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Provide Sustaining Engineering support on existing products and instruments.
- Provide support to internal staff in Manufacturing, Thin Film Lab and Customer Service.
- Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish department and corporate goals.
- Responsible for configuration management and change control.
- Perform a variety of complicated tasks.
- Conduct regular technical reviews throughout the product development process.
- Contribute to concept/idea generation for the new product development process.
- Interface with internal and external customers to design new products and support existing products
- Analyze root cause and corrective action of line yield, field failures, safety, and manufacturing issues.
- Collaborate with other staff on related product issues and development.
- Maintain and protect the confidentiality of proprietary information.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering required.
- 0 - 2 years of mechanical design engineering experience is required for the Associate Mechanical Engineer level. Must have some practical hands-on industry experience. 5 years of mechanical design engineering experience is required for the Mechanical Engineer level.
- Experience with development of scientific instrumentation as well as smaller items.
- Technical experience preferred includes a broad range of product development with sound expertise in one or more areas:
- Mechanical Engineering.
- Materials science.
- Experience in product and process engineering support.
- Vacuum technology experience is preferred.
- Understanding of Design Qualification (DQ) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) process.
- Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFM & DFA), observe and recommend procedures, assembly jigs and training for manufacturing efficiency.
- Low and high-volume manufacturing environments.
- Interfaces to electrical and software components and controls.
- Control systems and automation.
- CAD experience is required with SolidWorks strongly preferred.
- Solid experience with a recent version of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work in mechanical design within multi-disciplinary projects.
- Ability to demonstrate mechanical design aptitude.
- Problem diagnosis and solving skills. A high level of attention to detail and accuracy is required.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills in collaborating with co-workers and clients.
- Results-oriented self-starting nature, with a demonstrated track record of success.
- A passion for delivering engineering excellence.
- Experience in product and process engineering support.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment, learn new things quickly, handle multiple tasks, and prioritize responsibly.
- Strong attendance record and work ethic, and maintain a positive attitude at all times.
Hours:
Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm; additional hours may be necessary as needed.
Salary/Benefits:
This is an exempt professional position. The annual salary range is $60,840 - $84,760 for the Associate Mechanical Engineer and $78,000 - $109,200 for
the Mechanical Engineer plus an excellent benefit package. A competitive pay rate will be commensurate with experience. Benefits include a generous medical,
dental, vision, and life/AD&D insurance plans, a 401(k) plan with Company match, paid vacation, sick leave, and 10 paid holidays.
