January, 2014 for Immediate Release
“Conflict Minerals” refers to casserite (ore to produce tin), columbite-tantalite (ore to produce tantalum), wolframite (source for tungsten), gold and their derivatives mined in the eastern province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (“DRC”) and in the adjoining countries (“DRC Region”) where revenues generated by their sale may be directly or indirectly financing armed groups engaged in civil war resulting in serious social and environmental abuses. In July 2010, the United States passed the Dodd-Frank Financial Reform Bill. Section 1502 of this bill requires all U.S. stock listed companies and their suppliers to disclose usage of Conflict Minerals (3TG).
Ted Pella, Inc. fully supports efforts to eliminate the use of tantalum, tin, tungsten and gold from improper sources that could promote abuses in the DRC Region and has a process in place to obtain information from its current suppliers concerning the origin of the 3TG metals that are used to manufacture Ted Pella, Inc’s products. Ted Pella, Inc. is many steps removed from the procurement of raw materials and uses processed or alloyed metals in the manufacturing of some of our products. Therefore, it relies on the information provided by its suppliers regarding their sourcing of metals. Although Ted Pella, Inc. is not a publicly traded company, and is not required to file this information with the SEC, we expect our suppliers to source materials from socially responsible suppliers and that all of its suppliers will comply with the Dodd-Frank regulation and provide all necessary declarations. Suppliers must pass this requirement on to their supply chain if they do not source directly from smelters, and determine the source of the 3TG metals. Ted Pella, Inc. will assess future business with suppliers who are non-compliant with this policy.
Based on information currently provided by its suppliers, Ted Pella, Inc. has not, and will not, knowingly supply its customers with products containing 3TG metals. Ted Pella, Inc. will continue to perform due diligence and survey its suppliers to verify compliance with this policy.
